It was so good the first time… we had to come back for another visit! 🙌
Our Jackson CEO students had another impactful experience at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale!
During our visit, we had the opportunity to tour Ozark Koala Ecosystem Services, owned by Mason Smith—a land management company offering both consulting and hands-on services. Students learned how clients are guided through informed decision-making, from creating management plans to removing invasive species, all with a commitment to quality work and strong customer service.
We also visited with Dr. Ken Anderson, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Thermaquatica, Inc., a private spin-off of SIU Carbondale. Students were introduced to innovative technology—Oxidative Hydrothermal Dissolution (OHD)—which converts low-value materials, including organic waste, into high-value products. A powerful example of how science and entrepreneurship intersect to solve real-world problems.
Lastly, we stopped by the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, where we connected with Will Lo, Executive Director/Jackson CEO Board Member, and Brian Croft, Board Chair/President for the Chamber and Jackson CEO. They shared valuable insights on leadership, community impact, and the importance of strong business networks.
A special thank you to Melissa Ray Roach, Director of Incubator Programs, for her warm welcome and for providing such an insightful look into how the Center supports entrepreneurs, startups, and growing businesses across our region.
We are grateful for the partnership and the opportunity to connect our students and community to resources that strengthen small businesses and spark innovation. The future is bright when we build together! 💡
